Small class sizes with high ratios of educators
One of the benefits of choosing a small school for your child’s primary education is access to smaller class sizes. This allows students to work closely with multiple educators who can focus on their specific learning goals. At Sacred Heart, we have a minimum of two educators in each classroom throughout the day to support the academic and wellbeing needs of all students.
A Multi-Tiered System of Support for Academic, Wellbeing and Positive Behaviour
The Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Framework helps our school maximise student access to universal, targeted, and specialised support across three key areas: academics, wellbeing, and positive behaviour. This tiered approach establishes a foundation for shared responsibility in addressing the unique learning and wellbeing needs of all students.
The accompanying diagram illustrates an overarching organisational structure that emphasises the delivery of effective instruction, wellbeing support, and behaviour support through differentiated instruction and planned interventions. This framework is outlined in “Living Well, Learning Well: A Student Support Framework for Armidale Catholic Schools.”
Transition to Kindergarten Program - “Sacred Heart Little Stars Transition”
At Sacred Heart School, we recognise that transitioning to Kindergarten can be both an exciting and overwhelming experience for children and their families. To support this important milestone, we offer a free Transition to Kindergarten Program called “Sacred Heart Little Stars Transition.” This program runs once a week during Terms 3 and 4.
Our Transition Program is designed to nurture the whole child, focusing on academic, social, emotional, spiritual, and physical development. We provide a rich and engaging curriculum that encourages exploration, creativity, and a love for learning. Our goal is to build a strong foundation in literacy, numeracy, and other essential skills through hands-on activities, interactive play, and guided instruction.
In addition to academic growth, we place a strong emphasis on social and emotional learning. Our experienced teachers work closely with students to help them develop self-confidence, independence, and the ability to collaborate with peers. We believe that these skills are crucial for success not just in school, but in life as well.
Small Schools Public Speaking Competition
Each year, in collaboration with the Boggabri Rotary Club, we organise a Small Schools Public Speaking Competition. This event provides a unique opportunity for students from Sacred Heart and other small schools in the Boggabri area to prepare and deliver speeches to an adjudicator and an audience. Developing the confidence to speak in public is a valuable life skill that we are dedicated to fostering. Additionally, this competition allows students to network with the wider community, helping them enhance their social interaction skills and expand their friendships.
